Jack volunteers the staff to sing Christmas carols at a local hospital. Susan gives Jack a private singing lesson. When he tries to kiss her, she resists, and Jack quits angrily. Susan later realizes that she wants to date Jack but finds him on the roof of the office building kissing Maddy.

Upset from seeing Jack and Maddy kiss, Susan shares her disappointment with Vicki who, in turn, shares it with the entire office.

Luis' lucky streak convinces Jack to take a trip to Reno, Susan's back goes out and Vicki worries that Ben is about to break up with her.

Nana enjoys dating a rich, suave mogul, who happens to be a cross-dresser, but ends the relationship when she discovers he's a Republican. Vicki finds her new life on a kibbutz difficult, and Todd and Luis fight over the vacant restaurant reviewing positon.

Vicki decides to leave her rabbi boyfriend but has trouble re-entering the country. Luis' run-in with a racist rental car company employee sparks an exposﾃｩ by the magazine, and a wistful black-and-white fantasy sequence by Luis, who's remembering the television-inspired ideas he once had of America.

Susan gets a gun when her apartment is burglarized, and Shawn Colvin takes revenge for the blistering review Todd once gave her. Luis is ecstatic that he is named photographer of the year by a magazine association--ntil he learns that he must give a speech. Jack gets into a terrible car accident.

Jack is hospitalized, leaving Susan in charge of the magazine. A visist from Maddy's father causes her emotional turmoil.

Susan agonizes over whether or not to ruin the career of a philandering politician. Vicki's wedding plans go awry. Todd and Luis embark on a new business: selling four large crates of yellow bell-bottom pants that they bought at an auction. First of a two-part episode.
