Coke Mason, a miner in a small Pennsylvania coal town, hopes to marry Rose and open a business. His gambling brother George pushes him into boxing and takes advantage of Coke's explosive temper. As Coke finds success in the ring, he worries that his anger will take over and destroy the future he longs to build.
