When his mother dies Fran is taken to an orphanage. He soon runs away to Galicia, the land where his parents were born. While taking a coastal walk, he is trapped by the tide and is unable to get back home, so he falls asleep on an isolated beach. He awakes to the sound of a motorboat being chased by the police and sees a package being thrown overboard.
