Luzi, an older, petty bourgeois secretary, and Dietmar, a much younger unskilled laborer, meet in Kiel. What begins as a cautious rapprochement develops into a relationship that is characterized less by closeness than by learned role models. Both cling to rituals, gestures, and ideas of "true" love as they know them from their upbringing, consumer culture, and magazines.
