Hello, My Girl

Shanghai youth Yang Yishan enrolls in a university in northeastern China. Upon arriving, he receives enthusiastic help from senior student Zhao Duoduo, only to find out it's a paid service. Due to an unexpected inspection by a teacher, Duoduo hastily leaves her small cart, her treasured tool, with Yishan for safekeeping.

Yishan finds an anniversary booklet in the library, discovering that his parents are mentioned in the records of the student film club, with his father being a founding member. Meanwhile, Duoduo, wanting to conduct her business smoothly on campus, goes to the Youth League office and registers a new student club called the Entrepreneurship Club.

After buying gym equipment, Yishan encounters a drunken Duoduo at the bus stop. Initially reluctant to help, he intervenes when she nearly gets hit by a bus. Grabbing her waist to prevent an accident, Duoduo reflexively slaps him.

In a large lecture class, Yishan is distracted and worried. Duoduo also attends the class, answering roll call for seven different students with varied expressions and voices, fooling the professor. Noticing her acting skills, Yishan chases after Duoduo post-class and asks her to help him deceive his aunt.

Duoduo and Yishan conspire to drive away his aunt by exploiting her discomfort with northeastern customs. They plan around Yishan's own unease with the communal bathhouse, but Duoduo miscalculates.

Zhao Duoduo thinks Yishan deliberately locked her in the studio overnight. Furious, she drags Yishan to a lecture hall and starts beating him up. Their silhouettes, under the classroom lights, cast shadows that appear as if two people are passionately kissing.

In the studio, Luna drags Yishan to show him the film club's screening list. Yishan worries the films alone won't attract enough people and suggests organizing a Harry Potter-themed masquerade ball to draw a crowd. Meanwhile, Duoduo is still scheming to drive away Yishan's aunt.

Guan Chuang roams the campus scoping out attractive girls, while Yishan is jogging on the track. As Guan Chuang passes by the field, he notices a cat crouched in the bushes and, distracted, falls into a manhole. After struggling to climb out, his phone is snagged by a passing construction vehicle.

With fewer customers at the barbecue joint in the morning, Zhao Jiefang decides to spruce himself up. Luo notices the change in Zhao Jiefang's demeanor. When Zhao Duoduo arrives to help, she finds her father gone and gets angry. Luo informs her that she should be happy, as Duoduo has been wanting a stepmother, and it seems like it's becoming a reality.

Yishan asks Duoduo, 'What exactly are you trying to do?' Unable to straightforwardly express herself, Duoduo first inquires if Yishan still wants to drive his aunt away. Despite having contemplated this, Yishan, although unwilling, decides to let the matter go for now.

Yishan recruits two members from the film club to recreate a classic scene from the movie The Godfather (where the protagonist slowly turns in a chair to speak to someone). He practices filming in the studio, while Duoduo is busy counting inventory in the entrepreneurship club, calculating the feasibility of attracting new members by giving away items.

In the studio, Yishan recalls that Duoduo has pretty good acting skills and asks if she can help act out a movie scene. Duoduo gladly agrees. During their conversation about the filming, they mention that they could shoot a scene from the movie Love Letter when it snows.

Yishan introduces Hu Yiming, a potential live-stream host. Following Yishan's proposal, Duoduo and Hu Yiming start preparing for a livestream, with Yishan assisting. However, Yishan receives a call from his aunt, who says there's a leak in the heating pipe at home.

Duoduo's live-streaming career flourishes with Hu Yiming doing food streams and Ge Qian doing beauty streams. An attractive guy and a pretty girl also show up to join as hosts, mimicking funny segments. After a busy day, Yishan and Duoduo leave the studio and walk together. Duoduo realizes she hasn't checked in on her dad and Aunt Yang for a while.

Guan Chuang inquires about Zhao Duoduo and arrives at the studio with food and drinks for everyone. However, Luna gets jealous since Guan Chuang is a member of the film club, leading him to explain he's just participating in a film club activity.

After closing their stall at the night market, Duoduo folds something and gives it to Yishan, who likes it a lot. Encouraged, Duoduo folds a fortune teller (origami game) and they write various fortunes on it such as get rich, ward off bad luck, pass all exams, etc. For the last slot, Yishan writes find a partner, and both of them end up landing on that fortune.

Yishan hears in the cafeteria that the building where their studio is located has caught fire and rushes back. At the entrance, he learns that Zhao Duoduo is still inside and dashes in without hesitation. Seeing the fire is small and already extinguished, he continues inside and finds Duoduo holding some items.

Yishan's short film wraps up smoothly, and everyone goes to his aunt's house to celebrate. Before leaving, Duoduo offers to stay and help Yishan clean up, and Guan Chuang also wants to stay. Yishan insists everyone go home early to rest.

After the market, on the way back to the dorm, Ge Qian teases Duoduo about finally understanding romance, referencing the bracelet she accepted. Duoduo denies it, but Ge Qian directly points out her relationship with Yishan. Duoduo starts contemplating her relationship with Yishan but continues to deny it.

Yishan asks Duoduo out for Christmas Eve, and Guan Chuang also invites her out. Wang Zixuan gets excited and sides with different CPs (couples) with Ge Qian. In the evening, Guan Chuang, wearing a bow tie, brags to Lu Han and Hu Yiming about his dinner date at a Western restaurant.

On Christmas Eve, Yishan invites Duoduo to a romantic spot. Duoduo, unusually well-dressed, also wears the love charm bracelet she got earlier. Yishan plans to confess his feelings, but upon seeing the bracelet, mistakenly assumes Duoduo has chosen Guan Chuang. Yishan begins to distance himself from Duoduo.

Yishan begins his wife-chasing crematorium efforts. They go grocery shopping together; Yishan persistently annoys Duoduo, asking her to go to the Ferris wheel with him at night. Fed up, Duoduo leaves the market first, tells the taxi driver she doesn't know Yishan, and leaves him behind.

After New Year's, Guan Chuang, thinking Yishan and Duoduo haven't reconciled, grows impatient and drags both of them out, telling them to clear the air face-to-face. The three make up. Yishan tutors Duoduo, and she passes her exams successfully. Their short film wins an award at the University Student Film Festival.

Yishan gathers everyone at a barbecue restaurant. Though Zhao Jiefang is still mad at Duoduo, he remains civil in front of the classmates. During the meal, Yishan announces he's giving everyone small gifts and starts a slideshow of a digital album, documenting various experiences of the film and entrepreneurial clubs.
