An old stroke victim is found at the bus stop. Before he passes, he gives Charlotte a pouch with a key in it. Charlotte eventually discovers the man to have been a famous country singer and artist, and is able to track down his grandson.

A mysterious man is dropped off at Thyme and Tide in the middle of the night, bloody, and wanting a place to sleep. When Peggy goes to check on him in the morning, he's dead. With Jack's help Sheriff Troy attempts to find out who the man was. The townsfolk are circulating wild theories. Was he murdered?

Olivia must rule on a divorce case between Rosie and Zach. Each parent makes a case for why they should have sole custody of their kids, and of course both sides differ greatly. In the process of deliberating, Olivia finds more and more similarities to her own divorce. She eventually decides on what's best for the children, and eventually rules for joint custody, with a special hitch.

Seth is coming home from a trip in Alaska, and Justine couldn't be more excited. But when he doesn't show up, Justine calls his fishing company and learns that no one has seen him since he collected his pay. Much to Olivia's chagrin, Justine flies up to Alaska herself. When she finally finds him after a bumpy journey, it turns out that things are slightly different from what she expected.

A convict from one of Olivia's old cases, Lenny, returns to Cedar Cove after his jail sentence. Olivia wants to reward him with a second chance. But no one will hire an ex-convict until Cliff finally comes to the rescue allowing Lenny to work at the ranch. A few days later however, the gazebo in Harborfront Park burns to the ground... A weekend getaway for Olivia and Jack doesn't go too well.

No one wants to enter the annual Cedar Cove Bachelor Auction. When Olivia finally convinces Cliff to participate, the plan is for her to bid on him, then hand him over to Grace, and since everyone is doing the same with their friends, they'll simply switch. What could possibly go wrong? Stan is also in town and tells Olivia he's been seeing a counselor, but only under certain conditions..

The dates arranged at the auction all take place, and each of them ends in a rather confusing situation. Will and Grace even start dating, putting Cliff's new approaches to Grace in jeopardy. While teaching Justine how to fish, Seth manages to get much closer to her. And Olivia, who has been spending more time with Stan, needs to find a way to truly convince Jack that her heart belongs to him.

Olivia fends off a lawsuit after a fender bender with Jack's help. Though grateful for what he did, she still acts upset - for a surprising reason. When Seth gets an Alaska fishing trip, Justine even urges him to go. Warren collapses from stress but vows to change. Grace struggles with her feelings for Will, who is taking his wife to France, leaving her confused.

Justine is thrilled when Seth shows up at her door again. He made a decision. Will is put on the spot and forced to confess that he's leaving his wife. Grace tries to mend fences with Cliff, but since his ex-wife cheated on him, he can't be with someone like that again. Maryellen and John are trying to build something steady, but issues of trust keep rising between them.

Christmas in Cedar Cove brings both traditions and surprise. Jack wins Citizen of the Year over Bob Beldon, and Olivia chooses him over Stan. Grace decides not to give up on Cliff. Justine and Seth work to open their new restaurant, the Lighthouse, but they face a dramatic setback. Thankfully, on Christmas morning, the whole town gathers to help them rebuild what they thought they had lost.
