Anthony Wonke
Director, Producer
Anthony Wonke is an Oscar-nominated, double Emmy and triple BAFTA-winning director and producer, specializing in cinematic documentaries, feature films, TV series and high-end commercials. He has also won, amongst other awards, the Prix Italia, Peabody, Grierson, RTS, One World Media and Spotlight awards for his films. Known for his original feature documentaries Children on the Frontline, Fire in the Night, The Battle for Marjah and Crack House USA, as well as his documentary series The Tower: A Tale of Two Cities, his recent theatrical and broadcast features include Dettori for Sky, The Director and the Jedi with Lucas Film and Disney, Ronaldo with Universal Pictures, Being AP with BBC Films, and Unmasking Jihadi John - Anatomy of a Terrorist with HBO, which was nominated for an Emmy, BAFTA and Grierson award. He is currently working on several feature films, including his debut narrative feature In the Shadows, starring Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy, MobLand), which receives its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival 2026. Followed by its UK theatrical release on 30th October 2026. He is also co-creating a US-based drama series with Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning producers Sleeper Films and Altitude. In 2026, Wonke premieres three feature documentaries at festivals and on Amazon: The Accidental Spy, The Decision and Medea. He is also developing a movie dramatization of The Accidental Spy, written by Ursula Rani Sarma and produced by the team behind In the Shadows alongside the Oscar-nominated Cambridge Picture Company, and is developing a feature film set in a contemporary Middle East conflict zone with Emmy and BAFTA-winning producers Top Hat. His commercial work has been recognized with numerous advertising industry awards and nominations, including Cannes Lions, Clios and British Arrows. Represented by Partizan, he has directed campaigns for major global brands including Google, Johnnie Walker, Vodafone, Expedia, Jaguar, UEFA and DAZN. His films range across a variety of genres, always marked by intelligence, visual flair and emotional insight. Wonke’s work has been shown at film festivals around the world - including the US, Canada, the Far East, Europe and the UK - as well as screened on Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Sky, BBC, Channel 4, HBO, PBS and Arte
